Transport and Infrastructure

Although fairer transport for all has been promoted across London by the London Mayor projected by 2050 including the rolling out of "Hopper Fares" enabling travellers to travel at reduced rates within a journey time of 1 hour, transport inequalities require sustainable addressing. According to TFL; "The number of trips taken each day is higher for those on higher than lower incomes in London".

Transport Accessibility Levels are a measure of connectivity to London's public transport network for locations within regions of London. The values are determined by the walking distance to the nearest transport means such as stations and stops and by the frequency or the rate by which transport is served at these stations.

Primary research compilation in terms of Transport Surveys conducted by Invisible Ends illustrates the extent to which individuals across London base their transport decisions involving the financial transport costs currently in place in London. A few of these findings are presented below:

As illustrated on the map above, inner and central regions of London such as Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea consist of higher values due to the fact that the waiting times for these services are short and reliability of service is high. These occurrences highly contrast those of outer boroughs in London such as Bexley and Havering.

A majority of Londoners responding to the Transport survey use the Underground system-62%

Around 40% of Londoners state that their choice of transport mode is affected by financial reasons

On Average the majority of Londoners spend £20-50 on transport per week

A large majority of respondents state that transport in London is not affordable (85%)

Around 50% of respondents state that transport expenses play a huge role in their other leisure expenditure decisions(eg. shopping etc)

30% of respondents state that Active Travel is not promoted in their local neighborhood (eg. Bicycle Scheme)
